In early 2002, the Lao Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc. developed plans
for the construction of a new health care facility to replace an old inadequate
dispensary. Entirely funded by the foundation, the new building was handed-over
to the people of Simmano on April 26, 2003. Staffed with four nurses,
under the guidance of a state-appointed medical doctor, the main activity
of the clinic is to provide pre and post natal care, first aid, vaccinations,
family planning and general health advice. Each day, an average of ten
people visits the clinic. For the majority of patients services and medicines
are free of charge.
